Note on the Afterlife artists’ book receives award

JUNE 17, 2025
I am honored to receive the New Impressions Print Studio Award for my artists’ book, Note on the Afterlife. The award was presented at the Monotype Guild of New England: 40 Years of Unique Prints exhibition (Art Complex Museum, Duxbury, MA) in recognition of “remarkable talent in monotype.”

This book is part of my Immortality series exploring women aging in the 21st century. With the goddess Proserpina (also known as Persephone) as a guide, I embrace my own in-between-ness as an artist and writer moving across time and space.

Using Proserpina’s perpetual journey from earth to the underworld as a touchstone, I focus on themes of time, mortality, and creativity.  In my quest for ancestral roots I became fascinated with how they play out as motifs in the ancient Mediterranean world, specifically in narrative friezes. My book serves as a memory container similar to reliquaries and canopic jars that store the viscera of our lives in the hereafter.
